Exciting news is on the horizon for youth soccer! Beginning in the 2026-2027 season, US Youth Soccer, US Club Soccer, and AYSO will transition back to a seasonal year age-group formation. This change will shift age-group classifications back to an August 1 – July 31 calendar, moving away from the current birth-year system.
This decision marks a return to the format used before 2017, aiming to align better with school-year age groupings and foster team continuity. For parents of FC Dayton players, this adjustment could mean your child will stay with more of their current teammates as they progress through the age groups, rather than being separated strictly by birth year.
According to Ohio Soccer’s announcement, the decision was made after extensive discussions and feedback from clubs, coaches, and families across the country. The primary benefits of this change include:
For families at FC Dayton, this transition means that starting in 2026, teams will be formed based on the seasonal year rather than birth year. This may result in some roster adjustments, but overall, it should create a more cohesive experience for players, parents, and coaches alike.
FC Dayton is committed to making this transition as smooth as possible. We will provide updates, guidance, and support throughout the process. As we get closer to the 2026-2027 season, we’ll host informational meetings to help parents and players understand the changes and how they’ll impact team placements.
We encourage all FC Dayton families to stay informed by checking official announcements from US Youth Soccer and Ohio Soccer. You can read more about the transition here.
As always, FC Dayton is here to support our players and families, ensuring the best possible soccer experience for our young athletes. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to our coaching staff or club administrators.
We look forward to navigating this change together and continuing to grow as a club!
Go FC Dayton!
